Ideas for dinner tomorrow in Midtown West/Hell's Kitchen/Hudson Yards

We are meeting people who are brand new to the city (the daughter is starting at John Jay), and we'd like to take them to an early dinner tomorrow someplace that is walking distance/short cab ride from their hotel, the New Yorker. Ideally, it would be relatively quiet, without being rushed, so we can converse, and not crazy expensive. Also would love any other places where we can sit and chat, such as ice cream or coffee places. Hope us, Metafilter!

I hesitate to suggest that anyone go to Hudson Yards, ever, but if I did, it would be to try Kawi. My one caveat is that Chang restaurants are often rather loud.

Hi this is my neighborhood. Here are a few places we like:
- Rosa Mexicano (upscale Mexican, very nice fish and guacamole)
- Kashkaval Garden (Mediterranean tapas, cozy simple food and really tasty, get the tapas plate very good value)
- Casellula - specializing in wine and cheese, yummy food, in particular they have something called the “pig ass sandwich” which omg so good
- Ippudo Ramen or Totto Ramen West - generally quite a bit of a wait at both but not if you really mean early dinner
- Five Napkin Burger
- Bocca Di Bacco is decent
- Taboon (upscale middle eastern, I feel like this is a big visiting parents of John Jay students restaurant)
- Gazala Palace is tiny and BYOB, Druze cuisine, delicious
- At the north end of your specified region is PJ Clarke’s for classy burgers and oysters
- Have not been to Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken yet but I like the other Blue Ribbon places I’ve been (Blue Ribbon Sushi is on 58th if that’s interesting)
- You could also go to the very nice food hall at Gotham West with something for everyone. The Spanish tapas as good as is the Corner Slice pizza and the Ivan ramen is good (especially the vegetarian one!) PLUS Ample Hills ice cream, GET THE SALTED CRACK CARAMEL

I like Tulcingo del Valle (possibly just going by Tulcingo now). Bird and Branch is a little bit of a hike but excellent for coffee/tea. B&B is small but has some street seat benches. (Kawi is excellent and I know one of the managers a little bit.)
