Book gift for new baby in Philippines

My coworker is having his first baby next month. Yay! I want to send him a book as a gift. He is in the Philippines and I am in the US. What's a good book for him to read to his baby?

I need to ship this book to the Philippines.

When a cohort in Poland had a baby, I got him Red Wagon by Polish-American Renata Liwska. I love that book because it had beautiful illustrations and has a taste of Poland and a taste of US in it.

What would be a similar book that is perhaps by a Filipino-American?

Also, any recommendations that are cheaper to ship to the Philippines will be welcome.

Best answer: Pumplepie specialises in Filipino children's books! They are based in the Philippines which would make delivering within the Philippines a lot easier. According to the FAQs on their website, they accept international orders so I imagine that using a US credit card won't be an issue when making an order. I haven't purchased anything from them before but my Hong-Kong-based cousin speaks highly of their books.

Best answer: Book Depository is my go-to for gifting books to friends in other countries, because of the free shipping.

Filipino Celebrations : A Treasury of Feasts and Festivals by Liana Romulo

Filipino Children's Favorite Stories by Liana Romulo

Filipino Friends by Liana Romulo

All about the Philippines : Stories, Songs, Crafts and More for Kids by Gidget Roceles Jimenez

Cora Cooks Pancit by Dorina K. Lazo Gilmore

I just browsed the Pumplepie site and have not used it myself, but can offer a few recommendations:

Antukin: Philippine Folk Songs & Lullabyes - good collection of songs and rhymes

Si Pagong at Si Matsing - a classic story written by the Philippine national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal

Filipino Legends and Folk Tales - Book Bundle for Advanced Readers - I was thrilled to find these on the Pumplepie site! I had this set of books as a kid and absolutely loved them! Beautiful illustrations and lovely stories with a strong sense of culture (mythology, legends, folk tales). More for the middle grade (8-12 years) range than baby/toddler years, but highly recommended.
