I'd sniff glitter if it'd help me feel something

I've been loving Julia Michaels and Lorde recently. (Things I like: they make pop music that is sparsely arranged, heavily vocal-centric, not at all diva-ish, emotionally raw in thoughtful ways, but still unmistakeably pop through and through, and definitely not rock/indie/folk.) Who else might hit these buttons? Assume I live under a rock and even super famous musicians might be new to me. Both my examples are white women, but I'd be even more excited for musicians of other genders and races who do this sort of thing.

I think Marina and the Diamonds and Lana Del Rey both check those boxes (although LDR is very much a "persona"). Both are white women though.

This is the polar opposite of sparsely arranged and yet there's a certain magic to Carly Rae Jepsen's music that might appeal to your musical sweet tooth.

Seconding Christine and the Queens, but Tilted is my jam.

Carly Rae Jepsen is my spirit animal. My favourite is Gimmie Love.

You might want to give a listen to Izaro. Her stuff's in Basque and Spanish. It's pop music that showcases the vocals and doesn't really sound like anything else. A while back I got really smitten by this song, and made an FPP about it.

Seconding Billie Eilish. I am not sure where you draw the line between pop and indie, but your description also made me think of Autre ne Veut and Chairlift.
