More accurately, it's a picture drawn long after Gutenberg's death purporting to be a portrait of him. As far as I know there are no contemporary portraits; the significance of printing in history wasn't widely recognized until long after Gutenberg's death, and before the sixteenth century it was very uncommon for commoners in Germany to have portraits drawn or painted. (I am a Renaissance historian with an interest in the history of printing.)
