Futuristic sci-fi for youths

The flip side to this question... what are kids' visions of the future? I'm thinking specifically about what contemporary sci-fi is predicting for kids, but I would be interested to know what actual kids think the future and their adulthood will be like.

Best answer: My biggest touchstone for Kids These Days is my local Girl Scouts, ages approx 1st grade-6th grade, Latinas, in a low income neighborhood.

They have dreams of being teachers, of living with their parents and siblings forever (notable exception: little brothers), of visiting their grandparents in Mexico any time they want.

Some of them want to be nurses instead. Some of them see themselves with kittens and some with puppies. But the "let's make big plans about our futures" conversation always always gets back to those very modest dreams.

Best answer: I have younger kids so it's more about wishes than predictions:
I don't want to have to drive in traffic so I hope there's self driving cars.
I wish people would stop killing rhinos so they don't go extinct.
Examples above.

Best answer: My 17 year old has stated that he will devote his life to creating genetically engineered bacteria to break down plastic waste and/or sequester atmospheric carbon, "to maybe save as many of us as I can." I asked him about maybe a wife and kids, and he looked at me almost pitingly and said, "if there's time, maybe. Doubtful, though." Which made me want to cry a little.
