Autism and ADHD resources

My teen is diagnosed with autism and ADHD. I'd like to read and learn more from a perspective of people who have these neurological profiles. What do you suggest?

I have NeuroTribes on order from the library. What other books or online resources do you suggest? My aim is to better understand my kid's experience in order to best support them. I'm open to any kind of resource including fiction or online discussion forums.

My kid is intellectually gifted with a range of functional challenges specifically around socializing and executive function. They have tons of strengths and enthusiasm for life. They got an autism diagnosis only a couple years ago.

I asked my kid if they had anything they would like me to read and they said they specifically feel that I could use more understanding of the way their autism and ADHD intersect.

As someone who has ADHD but is not on the autism spectrum, I suggest that looking at general accounts of the experience of ADHD is unlikely to be helpful for understanding your child’s experience, unless you have very little information about ADHD in the first place.

My kid is very similar to yours!

I'd recommend starting with the Autistic Self Advocacy Network.

If your kid is feminine or nonbinary, Autistic Women & Nonbinary Network is also good.

The book The Real Experts: Readings for Parents of Autistic Children was helpful for me. (I liked NeuroTribes a lot too.)

Amythest Schaber is a good YouTuber. My kid and I have enjoyed watching her videos together.

I'm not sure about the ADHD/autism intersection stuff. Kid and I are still perplexed about exactly which behaviors/traits stem from which diagnosis. Stuff about neurodiversity in general might lead you somewhere?
