Room rental in Brisbane or the Gold Coast

My academic organization is holding its annual conference in the Gold Coast at a hotel conference center. A smaller group runs a preconference for about 30 people, typically off-site in a library or other community rental space with wifi, tables, etc. Any suggestions for places to start looking?

None of us are Australia savvy, so suggestions would be welcome.

The conference itself is on the Gold Coast but we've been informed that Brisbane is an option. Personally I know that *some* people (uh hem, me) prefer to stay in closer proximity to the conference venue (settle into hotel, don't have to worry as much about transit).

In past years libraries, universities, not-super-religious churches (Friends, Unitarian), and youth community centers have been used.

Response by poster: Looks like the official conference site is the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC).

Brisbane is about 90km away (over 1 hour driving each way.)

Try Griffith Uni. Direct tram line from the convention centre. They may have spaces you can book. Also, the Star (Casino but also events). Sharks Leagues Club near Griffith (walking distance from tram) might have spaces, or the Mantra Hotel on site.

Oh also the Crowne, close to the convention centre.

The Broadbeach Library is walkable (10-15 mins) from the convention centre. (Closed on Sundays though!)
