NYC: An Obstetrician Desert?

I need reccomendations for a good Obstetrician or midwife in NYC (42nd and lower or Brooklyn). For whatever reason the last 5 places I have contacted don't actually do obstetrics, are in the process of disbanding or don't take my insurance (BCBS). Please help!

I haven't seen anyone yet- this would be for my first 8 wk check-up and beyond. Its my first pregnancy, I'm 33 and in decent health. I definitely tend towards the less intervention is better type medical care, but right now I'll settle for any medical care!

I honestly thought this would be easy to find but I'm now so frustrated and stressed about it. I have tried using my medical insurance company's website and zocdoc- neither is giving me anyone who actually deals with pregnant women. I'll also take suggestions of what internet sources have reliable reviews/contact for doctors.

I’ve heard great things about Spring OBGYN.

Spring OBGYN is supportive and really exceptional. They did not take BCBS (as of six years ago).

My OB takes BCBS (PM me if you want to review your specific plan) and holds office hours in Columbus Circle. The hospital is in Washington Heights and I have had 3 positive birth experiences there.

The tip I’ve gotten is to take an early tour of the place you want to deliver and get a list of who the nurses you meet like working with.

My primary doc likes Christina Kong, MD, FACOG, who is affiliated with Weill Cornell. I haven’t met her yet.

Christina Kong delivered my first, but was no longer doing deliveries by the time I had my second. I really liked her.

I (and honestly a good 80% of the women I know) go to Downtown Women on Broadway and Prince. Fair warning, some people do have mixed experiences (Yelp reviews are not positive), but I had a great experience through pregnancy and delivery just last year, as well as routine gynecological care before that. I have BCBS, too, and they accepted it; it's also listed on their site.

I'll note they do rotate you through all the doctors, because you don't know who will be on call when you deliver. Some people don't like that, but for me it was a plus. They deliver at NYU Langone, so that's also something to note if you're coming from Brooklyn (though perhaps they would do NYU Brooklyn too? I'm not sure). They are definitely a medicine-centered practice, but there are midwives on staff, and they seemed (to a very medically-minded me) open to a range of birth styles and experiences. I felt pretty supported in all my choices and was very happy with them. You can always try it, and switch doctors later (when hopefully you're feeling less stressed) if it's not right for you.

And congratulations!
