Help me find a Toronto nutritionist who understands emotional eating.

My partner and I (age 49 and 50) both struggle with emotional eating and excess weight. We would like to find a qualified nutritionist in the Toronto area who can help us change unhealthy habits.

Examples of detrimental eating patterns that we have include the following: "I must clean my plate," eating right before bed, and eating too much when we go out to eat together or attend social gatherings. It's important for us to find a professional who does not fat shame and who can help us change both how we individually relate to food and how our relationship dynamic may be undermining healthy ways of eating when we share meals or snacks together. Having someone with a fresh perspective to give us insight from outside our dynamic is crucial because sometimes the unhealthy patterns feel "permanent," even entrapping, from inside the relationship and lead to feelings of stuckness and despair, as in "it's hopeless to lose weight."

The Fat Nutritionist is registered in Ontario, though I don't know exactly where she practises (though I believe she does remote work as well). Her writing about food and weight was hugely helpful in my own journey towards healthier thinking in this area; try reading some of her blogs and see if anything resonates.

I also came to suggest Michelle Allison, The Fat Nutritionist. I am not certain what services she is providing directly to the public these days, but if nothing else she can likely make a recommendation to someone who can help you. I have worked with her in the past, and she is wonderful.

I had a really good experience with Marni from Empowered Wellness.
