NYC piano tuner

PianoTunerFilter : I'm looking for a recommendation for a good piano tuner in NYC.

I have a Yamaha U1 upright that needs a bit of work (regulation, possibly some hammer work) and the last couple of guys I've tried didn't do a great job. If anyone can point me towards a good tuner I (and my wife, who has to listen to me play) would be very grateful. I'm on the Upper East Side if that's significant.

Try calling some concert halls and see who tunes their pianos.

Hang out at Washington Square Park. There (at least used to be) this old guy who brought his piano there and tuned it up and played (making a great show in the process). I'd ask him to come tune your piano. On reflection, I hope he's still doing his routine down there. (I'm old, this memory is from the mid 80's).

Best answer: Peter Bondy at Bondy Piano tuned the ancient Baldwin at my theater for many years. Highly recommended.

Response by poster: Thanks milquetoast, I'll give him a call. How is Edinburgh these days? (from an ex-Weegie who spent his fair share of time out East).

Heh. Edinburgh is -- well, you know how it is. I'll say this much: trying to do business here requires an awful lot of patience. All told, I like it, but I miss late nights in NYC.

And I'd kill for some real pizza. The ten-inch wad of dough and string cheese (topped with sweetcorn, no less) available at the local kebab house doesn't quite cut it. (Luckily, Lupe Pinto's in Tollcross sells imported Mountain Dew, so all is well.)

I hope the recommendation works out. I have some other piano contacts if the need should arise.

By the way, I was told by a friend of mine who is a piano tuner (but who isn't available for tuning) that you really want to ask for Hugo at Bondy Piano.
