Long range cordless phone?

I'm looking for a long range cordless phone which I can carry with me as I walk the farm. I'm talking a range of maybe 300 metres (1000').

I know these types of phones do exist. Does anyone have any experience with them? Especially in Canada?

And I know, a cell phone might be the best option, I know all about that. I want to know about long range cordless from a base station attached to a land line.

There's a company called EnGenius Technologies that might have what you need. They've got a product called DuraFon that goes up to 3000 acres according to their literature. It used either 2.4 or 5.8 Ghz, so you don't need a license for it from Industry Canada.

You may want to look into Senao long range cordless phones. They have the dubious distinction of being used to trigger IEDs in Iraq. They seem to be hard to get ahold of in the US, though.

Actually, it looks like the EnGenius phones are Senaos. Their sales page lists EnGenius as their US and Canadian distributors.

Hmmm, OK, this will now be the second time in 5 minutes that I've posted the following answer to an AskMefi question: Hello Direct.

We have been able to use our Panasonic KX-TG5240 (5.8 GHz) to a range exceeding 250 metres with no problems. I think 300 metres would not be a problem. Also, we're in Northern Virginia, in the Washington, DC suburbs, where the range is somewhat limited by interference from nearby houses. YMMV. Panasonic has updated this model, and I believe the newer models retail for under $110 (US) for a two-handpiece set (base and extension phones). I thank Google Earth for being able to compute the distances. :)

Interestingly, I have a similar Panasonic and I too live in the MD burbs of DC. And I get similar range as flyingrock. I was actually surprised how far away from the house I could walk.
