cheap, quiet wristwatch

I'm looking for a cheap (less than $40, cheaper is better), QUIET, simple analog wristwatch. Aesthetically I like the Timex Easy Reader sort, but reviews all say they have audible ticking noises, which will drive me up a wall. (A consistent faint hum might be OK but I'd rather avoid it.) Hope me!

Timex and Swatch quartzes are well-known for being loud. Go with a Casio, Citizen or Seiko - something like this Casio MQ24-7B perhaps? The reviews mention that it's a very quiet watch.

I hate ticking too. I am pretty sure this is the watch I currently have (a Casio, like hellopanda suggests), and if so it's totally silent and pretty study for the price.

I've had a number of affordable Nixons from watches.com that have been quiet. Timex = always loud.

+1 to the Casio mentioned above. I’m wearing one now and I have to hold it 12” or closer to my ear to hear any ticking.

I buy them two at a time at $10 each so I always have a spare.

Response by poster: Does anyone know if the smaller ("women's") Casio models like LQ139B are equally quiet? I have small-ish wrists so a smaller watch face would be good, though the model everyone has linked to looks great otherwise.

I wear the Casio LQ-139 and it is indeed very quiet.

If you have small wrists and the right sense of style, you might find a Swatch Flik Flak that works for you. I have pretty ok hearing and I can only hear it tick when I have the watch within 4" of my head, which doesn't really ever happen.

They run about $40 and are just the cutest, and every time I've had an issue with mine (scratched face, broken clasp thingy, dead battery) I walk it into the Swatch store and they replace it right there for free in minutes.

Another recommendation for the Casio MQ-24 here. Quiet, easy to read, cheap enough that I don't mind losing it. Keeps good time, too.

Response by poster: Thanks everyone! I ordered this version of the MQ-24 (there are a few slightly different designs) and it is indeed quiet and very cheap.

Cheap and fast were a priority for me (I need a solid watch for a school program I'm starting next week) but when I have more time and money I'm going to check out Casios LTP-V002L-1B and LTP1303L-7B, which are smaller and seem more aesthetically pleasing (the silver bezel seems more versatile/classy to me.)
