iPhone has stopped recognizing my podcast app as the main media player

I have an iPhone X (software version 12.2) and as of yesterday, my iPhone has no longer been recognizing my podcast app (I use RSSRadio) as the main audio player even when I'm actively listening to it. If I swipe down to get to the control center, where it used to show whatever podcast I was listening to in the 'music' section, now it has a random song from the iTunes app queued up as ready to go instead.

As another anecdote, when I'm using wireless headphones, when I use the headphones buttons to pause the podcast, the phone jumps to whatever song was randomly picked from the iTunes app instead as though I'm just starting the audio feature on the phone.

How can I fix this?

I know this sounds dumb, but did you restart the phone yet?

Response by poster: Yes, I did restart the phone. It helped for a little bit (maybe an hour), but then went back to the same problem.

Which podcast app are you using?

If you press and hold on the music tile in Control Center you should see all play options. On my phone (iPhone SE) when I look at the control center I see the default as my iPhone's Music app. if I press and hold on the tile I see my Homepod and other sources when they are on the network. When my podcast app is closed I do not see it as an option. When the podcast app is open I see it as the tile in Control Center as the last audio I used.

Response by poster: I just tried terrapin's suggestion, but when I hold down the tile for music, the only audio source that shows up is the iTunes app. It's like the phone is no longer recognizing the podcast app as an audio app.

Is RSSRadio open when you try?

Yes. It's actively playing while I'm trying.

Hmm, then I suggest reaching out to Daniel.

Yeah, this reads like a software bug with the podcast app to me. Reaching out to the developer might help. They might already be working on a fix, or they might not know about it.

Best answer: It may be an iOS bug according to this Reddit thread I saw today. With this person (and others ) it is Spotify but I bet they are related. https://www.reddit.com/r/iphone/comments/bixipl/ever_since_upgrading_to_122_i_cant_control/
