I (bad pianist) and my friend (music theory phd abd etc.) put our ears to this one and didn't think of anything. Which is to say, it's not Chopin or Schubert, and we looked at lots of other things, but can't find any.

This left me with the following confabulation:

director, on set: no, it needs something....hey kid, you play piano?
intern: me?
director: yeah, yeah, kid, put down the coffee, hey, can you give me a waltz? and make it russian? kinda slavic? (gestures at some particularly informatively melancholy of the set)
intern: uhhhhh [sits down, knocks out an effortless ABA or whatever this was]
intern: [runs off]
director: damn, what was the kid's name? didn't even get it for the IMDB credits!

Best answer: A search for piano, waltz, F minor led me (eventually) to Tchaikovsky: Sentimental Waltz in f minor Op.51-6.

Best answer: The French title seems to give more results: Valse Sentimentale.
