What is the best way to donate Physiohterapy equipment?

I have a bathtub chair, toilet seat ( camode like) and a walker. I'm looking for ideas on the best place I should offer them to a charity, or something else?

Check with your local senior center, sometimes they keep stock on hand to give to people.

More 'something else' than charity, but -- after my grandmother passed, my auntie put a number of her assistive items up on Craigslist, and they were gone in record time. (I think she offered them for free.)

If your neighborhood has a Buy Nothing group, that's another option.

You can donate them to your local Red Cross.

Put them up on your local Freecycle board.

There are also churches that maintain a library of these types of items to lend congregants and other community members who need them.

A useful term of art is “loan closet.”

These offer all sorts of assistive technology—from wheelchairs to easy-turn oven knobs. They are sponsored by senior centers, disease-specific groups (stroke survivors, Alzheimer’s, arthritis)! Independent Living Centers (also called Centers for Independent Living).

The DME List

Connect people who need Durable Medical Equipment with people who have it to give.

That’s our focus at The DME List. We feel strongly that anyone needing new or slightly used durable medical equipment should have what they need and in the proper size. We also believe that equipment built for long-term use should not go unused with someone who no longer has use for it.

Are you someone or do you know someone that would like to donate their DME? Are you in need of DME? Check out our listing and donating buttons and thank you for your support!

When my grandmother died I gave all her equipment to the local senior center. They were very happy.

My small town has a sharing cupboard, a dedicated space for health supplies that can be borrowed. Call your town office, or Visiting Nurse organization.

DarlingBri: "You can donate them to your local Red Cross."

+1 . The Red Cross in my city uses donated items as a sort of lending library.

At one point in my life, I was wheeled around in a wheelchair donated to my parents' local Red Cross, and it made possible a trip home to see our littlest bunny graduate.

When my partner died I gave the equipment to the hospice she went to. They were happy to have it.
