I want to ship my road bike to myself, from US to France. Will I be on the hook for value-added taxes?

If you already own the bike, you will not be subject to VAT. You will likely need to submit a customs declaration, however.

This appears to be the U.K. guidance which (currently) ought to be the same. As I read it, VAT is due in principle, but you qualify for relief if you’re bringing the bike in for a temporary visit or if you’re moving to the EU, which probably covers most non-commercial imports.
