Welcome to another edition of Name My Cat!

My BF and I lost our two senior kitties over the past few months, and we were heartbroken at having to say goodbye to them. I didn't think that I'd want to bring another cat into my home so soon, but here he is!
He's an eight-year-old grey domestic short hair with a small white patch on his chest. He's been home since Saturday, spent only the first 24 hours under the sofa, and is slowly warming up to us. He is very mellow, purrs near constantly, and has hardly meowed or meeped. (He was very friendly at the shelter, so we are hoping that he will eventually be a lap kitty.) He has a shelter name, Patrick, but I'm not really crazy about it.
My previous cats have had people names--Lucy, Curtis, Taylor and Lloyd--so that's what we are aiming for.
What should we name this little dude?

Best answer: He looks like he's at least part Russian Blue (like our boys!). On that vein, you could go with a popular male Russian name: Vlad, Boris, Viktor, Dmitry (Dimi for short), Ivan, Igor.

Best answer: Roman Emperors have good cat names, and a mix of benevolence and cruelty that suits.
Domitian
Hadrian
Claudius
Antoninus Pius
For added points, you can use all a emperor’s names, for those moments if necessary gravitas (e.g. Domitian was, in full, Titus Flavius Caesar Domitianus Augustus; What cat wouldn’t love that?).

Best answer: If he's eight years old and already has a name, I'd stick with it. Or is "shelter cat name" just for improved adoption purposes?
That being the case, some well-known Patricks are:
St. Patrick or Patricius, Patrick Swayze, and Sir Patrick Stewart
Fred and Barney are my go-tos for random neighborhood tomcats. Or Dude.

Best answer: He looks almost exactly like my cat Ed, right down to the annoyed expression. I almost used the name Gus, so you can have that one, if you want. I suggest Guster.

Best answer: If he responds to Patrick, you should keep that. If not - I think he looks like a Salazar.
On preview - Sir Patrick Stewart is really good too.
Yay new kitty! He's adorable.

Response by poster: Thank you for all the great name suggestions! We ultimately decided on Orson, for my favorite director. His full name is Orson Patrick Cannonball because, well, he is built like one.
