Braun electric razor replacement foils / cutters suck in 2018?

Recently bought a model 32B replacement foil/cutter for my Series 3 razor, and, even after a cleaning cycle, it yanked every beard hair longer than stubble and failed to give me anything remotely resembling a clean shave. Did I get a bad one-off or counterfeit, should I buy from a store or vendor other than Amazon, or are most or all current replacement 32B/32S's just bad?
I've been a satisfied Braun customer for decades. I am fairly frugal and generally discard a Braun chassis only when I can't find replacement foils/cutters or the battery no longer holds more than 1 or 2 shaves worth of charge.
The previous replacement foil/cutter, installed 6 years ago, wore out after a reasonable period of use and cleaning. I grew a beard 4 years ago and recently decided to shave it off.
I bought (sold and fulfilled by Amazon) a 32B replacement foil and cutter. And boy howdy did it live down to the 1-star reviews. There are still a dozen pulled beard hairs sticking out of it, and I now sport an Eddie Izzard-style 'plague-theme' field of stubble.
I suspected it was only a matter of time after Procter & Gamble bought Braun that they would start aggressively pushing their loyal customers to their highest-margin products, but this experience will cause me to never buy another Braun at any price.
What is your experience with P&G Braun? Is this replacement probably a one-off bad unit or counterfeit? Or is Amazon's stock likely low-quality or counterfeit? Should I buy from another vendor on Amazon, or from Target / Walmart / Bed Bath & Beyond? Or should I give up and buy another ( < $80 ) brand? (For shaving reference, I am a bit more hirsute than Burt Reynolds but nowhere near Robin Williams)

However, after a lot of Amazon-surfing, I noticed there were many complaints just like yours, probably attributed to getting a counterfeit product, since other reviews in the same time frame had no problems.
So I decided to get mine from the local Wal-Mart store, reasoning that they would be more likely to have a legit supplier. Mine works great. It was about $25.
