My mom found some homemade strawberry jam when she was cleaning out her freezer... the jar was labeled 2004! It smells fine and has apparently been frozen the whole time. Can we eat this jam?

Frozen & sugary - you bet! It might taste stale or have absorbed some bad flavours if it wasn't sealed but it should be fine.

Seriously: what could possibly happen to this always-frozen jam whose seal has never been broken?
Nothing, there is no plausible mechanism that could make this unsafe.

Eat it and enjoy!

Response by poster: Awesome. Thanks! My food safety knowledge is pretty low, haha. We will devour it =)

We made strawberry jam once when I was like 11 and canned/froze it, and I'm pretty sure I finally ate out of the last jar when I was in college.

The flavor has almost certainly faded quite a bit, but it should be safely edible. I'd eat it.
