Handling uncertainty!

Just interviewed for my dream job. Help me not to gnaw my own face off.

Well, not a dream job, exactly-- I don't really have one of those. But this is certainly the best-paying jobs I've ever interviewed for and I got much further along in the process than I thought I would. It would legitimately change my life to receive a job offer like this one.

I also have a tentative offer for another job that is supposed to be calling me today to confirm that offer.

In short, everything happens so much. Any suggestions for intense, short-term anxiety of the 'can't eat/ can't sleep/ gonna shit my pants if i don't get to the bathroom in time' variety?

That's exciting - I hope you get the job! I find that exercise and nature are the best things for me when I have this my-head-might-pop-off feeling. Cardio helps me take the edge off more than any other type of exercise; a strenuous hike is perfect.

Good luck!

Get that magnesium calcium powder from the heathfood store. CALM. They’ll know what I’m talking about. I find l-theanine and GABA also help take the edge off.

I go for a walk and purposefully leave all communication devices behind. That gives me a couple hours where I’m not right on the edge waiting for the phone to ring. Not that it stops me from stressing about what sort of messages will be waiting when I get back, but that’s something I do better with and in any case a change of pace is always nice.

Jumping Jacks. Not the regular kind, the slow motion kind, so you can do them for 20 minutes, while watching every TED talk ever (or something not mindless to keep your mind focused elsewhere).

Definitely exercise/nature should help. Also remember that you were able to get an interview and as you said made it further in the process than you expected. That means you can do this again if needed. You're qualified, they like you, now it's just a matter of the final decision. So, if you don't get it that means you're totally prepared to keep trying for similar positions and are much more likely to get one of those. And hey, at the very least you've even gotten some great interview practice in. Wishing you luck and I hope you get the position!
