Where should I stay in Copenhagen, Munich and Berlin

We're going to Copenhagen and Germany for Christmas. What neighborhoods should I look for hotels in?

We've got 3 days in Copenhagen, 4 in Munich and 5 in Berlin including Christmas day. We won't have a car. We're interested in funky neighborhoods, good food and beer. I'm also considering maybe doing an extra nice hotel for Christmas eve and Christmas day in berlin before moving to a slightly cheaper place for the last 3 days. We can probably spend about 60-100 Euro per night. Later questions will be about food and things to do ect. Thanks

I'll let others weigh in with more detail on neighbourhoods, but when I was in Berlin in the summer, there seemd to be a Motel One in just about every district. Despite them being so ubiquitous, I stayed in one and I liked it. Not luxurious enough for your Christmas stays, but clean and modern. Mine was over on Ku'Damm - if/when I go back, I think I'll maybe try the one on Alexanderplatz or Hackescher Markt as I ended up getting the S-Bahn over that way most days anyway.

For a funky neighborhood in Berlin, I would suggest in Kreuzberg or Friedrichshain. Some areas of Neukölln might be a possibility as well, but with caution as there are parts of it that can feel a bit grim. Rixdorf is a cool part of Neukölln. I don't have any specific hotel suggestions, though!

Kreuzberg is wonderful and there is a lot of great food in the area.

I stayed near Tivoli and the central station for ease of getting around. Hotel Tiffany was a good deal. They were very helpful hosts. I don’t recommend doing a similar location in Munich, though.

thirding (fourthing?) Kreuzberg or Friedrichshain

For Copenhagen, I would aim for Vesterbro area. First Hotel Mayfair likely will have deals which put it in your price range, and I like the hotel. Ibsen's Hotel is in a slightly different neighborhood, but not too far away, but is also nice.

For clean nice budget, the WakeUp hotels are honestly really nice.

For Berlin yeah, Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain. If you want something more bougie I really like Prenzlauerberg, which to me is funky enough and definitely has good food and beer. But it's awfully bourgeois, Kreuzberg is much cooler.

All the fancy hotels in Berlin are right downtown in Mitte. It is boring-sauce in that part of town and out of your price range anyway. In Prenzlauerberg I frequently walked by the "Meininger Hotel Berlin Alexanderplatz", "Myer's Hotel Berlin", and the Hotel Oderberger. All three looked like plausible places to stay but I didn't go inside. (The last one has an awesome-looking restored swimming pool.)

Except for apparently the cheapest Motel One, which is in Mitte (at least from my google search). Gotta remember that for the next time I visit my brother.

If you've not looked up Berlin hotel prices yet i think you may be pleasantly surprised by what you can get for €100 per night. There are hotels rated in TripAdvisor's top ten for Berlin in that price range for each of the days you want. Basically I think Berlin tends to empty out around Christmas. Some off then will be cosier than others of course and the really high end stuff like the Adlon will still be way more.

I stayed in Copenhagen at CABINN City, which is near Tivoli. It was fairly centrally located, near the train station, and a short walk away from things. The designer of the hotel was inspired by ship cabins, so each room is extremely small, including the bathroom, but it is also very inexpensive. Since I was traveling by myself I didn't mind. (Also Denmark uses Kroner/Crowns, not Euro, I believe ... )

Most of the busier neighborhoods in Copenhagen are within walking distance of each other - if not, the train stations are most convenient. The Tivoli area is nice around Christmas, but very touristy because of all the visitors to the gardens. We stayed in Vesterbro, which is a funkier area than Tivoli at the Comfort Hotel there. It's basic but clean and walking distance to bars and restaurants and Kodbyen (meatpacking district) where there's also a few hip bars and dance clubs.

I've also stayed at the Generator Hostel, central Copenhagen, in an ensuite room. It was small but clean and perfect for two people, within walking distance of Tivoli and the town square, etc.
