Windows 10 Cheap Tablet Password Reset

My friend's given me her cheap Windows Tablet (Slide brand - Model TAB800WSL211020401) that she's forgotten her password on- Though I can manage to get to the recovery/reset Windows mode, the touch-screen no longer works to complete the process.
The device has a SD Card slot, and a Micro USB connector slot.
I've managed to get into Windows Repair mode by getting launching the accessibility keyboard, using that to hold down shift, then restarting.
Unfortunately though I can navigate all those menus within the Repair mode, when it starts the reset process it asks the 'quick wipe' or 'secure wipe' question, but at that point the touch-screen no longer works.
I dusted off a a little MicroUSB -> female USB-A adapter from my odds and sods drawer, which I then plugged a keyboard into-- but no dice, keyboard doesn't get recognized, same with mouse (doesn't even get recognized if I'm at the standard Windows login prompt)
Any ideas? She doesn't need anything to be kept on the tablet.

Response by poster: Could be-- I've ordered another "OTG" cable to test that-- (but I did hack together a second-one using the wiring diagram for the spec, and no dice). The port does charge-- but I suppose there's a small chance that to save a few dollars it's /just/ a charging port.
