What are some good but free ways to incentivize donating to a community-chest type fund?
I'm working on a gift swap for a facebook group I'm in and we solicit donations to make sure everybody gets a gift no matter what. Last year we incentivized donating by letting people post a message on the website but I forgot to do that this year. It's not too late to do something else but I think it is too late to do that one. Anyway I'm interested in finding out if there's any other fun stuff out there we could try. Does anyone else have any other ideas for things we could do?
Things I've thought of that I can't do:
- get someone to donate freebies to give out. I don't know anyone who has "stuff" they could donate.
- use some of the money we collect to give people who donate something. That seems like we could risk spending all the money we get on thanking people who gave money and have nothing left over for the thing we raised the money for.
- that's it, that's all I got.

Is the swap local or spread out across the world? That might help with suggestions :)

Some kind of badge they could put on their social media? Bonus: it would work as advertising, too.

How about awarding titles of nobility for locations on the Moon... “Marquesa of Mare Imbrium” or “Emir of Vallis Capella” for example.

Button badge? I realise it's worldwide but badges wok really well for this as you can ship them anywhere in a standard envelope for the cost of letter postage.

I would put the names of donators as a list in the facebook group's cover photo, saying "Thanks to our extra-generous santas!"
Usually putting people's names on a list is good enough to incentivize and remind others to donate

Could be something simple and not too pricey, like a box of chocolate or a bottle of alcohol. Maybe the prize could be donated by a local business... or just see if someone in the org can re-gift something already in your house!
