Looking for a text book on spatial statistics

If it was focused towards R and/or QGIS but with some explanation of the underlying statistical methods that'd be great. I don't have formal training in stats but I find it helpful in my work (landscape analysis and plant ecology).

I really hope to find something along the lines of Introduction to Biostatistics by Sokal and Rohlf but more focused on spatial processes - Intro to Biostats is also getting on a bit and I wonder if there is something more up to date (their Biometry is going a bit far for me at this point). An additional advantage of this book is it's portability - I do want something I can scribble in the margin and pore over.

I find Spatial Pattern Analysis in Plant Ecology by Mark Dale, 1999 useful. I may have just answered my own question as I've just found Mark Dale has just published 'Spatial Analysis A Guide For Ecologists' 2nd Ed 2014 - this is just portable enough.

But ... is there anything else out there?

Best answer: Check out "An Introduction to R for Spatial Analysis and Mapping" by Brunsdon and Comber

Response by poster: Thanks heaps JumpW - a hugely useful book that I didn't know of at all - I've ordered a copy already - there's also an update next year but this will be perfect for now.

Best answer: I like Dale's 2014 best for practical stuff -- I also have a lot of bookmarks in Bivand et al., Applied Spatial Data Analysis with R; 2nd ed. was 2013. And there are interesting examples in The Geometry of Ecological Interactions: Simplifying Spatial Complexity.

Response by poster: Thanks Clew - Hopefully I'll see a copy of The Geometry of Ecological Interactions tomorrow - I've never heard of it, sounds amazing.
