Recommend a recruiter in Minneapolis?

I have my eye on the escape hatch at my current job. I'd like to work with a recruiter to find something new. But experience has taught me that there are recruiters and then there are recruiters. Are there any individuals or organizations that you've worked with in Minneapolis that you would recommend?

More about my situation, if it helps weed out specialists in other stuff: I'm looking for a job writing and/or editing, or administrative at a cultural organization, or something closely related. Mid 40s, mid career (I guess), no interest in getting funneled into Target or UHG or one of the other big local corporate behemoths (and this is one of the big reasons to try to find the right recruiter). Especially interested in recruiters who interface with the local nonprofit sector.

I think the firm/recruiter that I see listed the most often is Ballinger Leafblad. They do a lot of recruiting and placement in the larger nonprofit sector - their tagline is something like they "find leaders for the civic sector." Offhand, I've know that they've done recruiting for St Stephens Human Services, Interfaith Action, Minneapolis Foundation, and Friends of the St Paul Public Library, so they might be good to sit down with.

This might be the most obvious answer and one you've already encountered. Though they're way above my paygrade, I've gotten hooked up with them a couple of times and they have some higher-level positions they're posting now. Hope this helps. Good luck on your search!

My cousin is a recruiter in the Twin Cities, but I think she specializes in health care stuff. I could ask her if she has any good colleagues in that sector if you don't get any other solid leads.

Would definitely appreciate that!

Recruiter with 20+ years' experience (not in your field, not in Twin Cities) replying.

My sense is that a "cultural organization" (especially if it is small, and especially if it is non-profit) won't likely have the budget to pay a recruiter's fee to assist in the hiring process. This is a variable that is often overlooked in discussions about using recruiters.
