Is there any way a person can, in 2018, get in trouble for sharing their cable log-in with someone outside their household to, say, watch the baseball playoffs.

I'm sure it's theoretically possible. So is getting hit by a meteor. You don't alter your daily routine to reduce the likelihood of meteor injury, do you?

You should probably look at your terms of service. Here's one for example. Note "Cable ONE reserves the right to suspend or terminate your access to the web site and/or Internet Service immediately upon a violation."

What does “in trouble” mean? If they suspend your account just sign up for another with a second email address. And if you feel guilty go buy a homeless person a meal. Don’t waste ethical concern on cable companies.

They have no way of proving that you were not at the other location unless they decided to have an elaborate sting operation. They're evil enough but also lazy.
