What is worth doing in Sarasota this time of year if you've got a toddler and a dog with you? (The dog can be left at accommodations if needed.)

Seconding Mote. Selby Botanical Gardens is really cool, too. They have an amazing collection of orchids as well as an education department which puts on kids programming.

as far as the beach we are having a red tide issue.........so unless it clears out (and it really is dependent on which way the wind blows) you'll want to stay clear of the beaches. we do have several dog parks & lots of other cool stuff to do. If near downtown you MUST have lunch at the Main Bar @ the east end of main street! THE BEST!
