Las Vegas, NV to Tecate, BC, MX - Challenge Level: Can't Drive

I'm looking for ideas on the quickest and cheapest transits between Las Vegas and Tecate, BC, MX. I've been looking at a few options, but am hoping someone has ideas or specifics I hadn't thought of.

Due to Reasons, I'm going to have to be making regular trips between Las Vegas, NV, and Tecate, MX. It's an easy drive, except that due to Other Reasons, I can't drive. So I'm looking at my best options for getting between the two locations.

Here's a list of thoughts:

1. I'm physically fit, so walking a couple miles, even in summer, isn't a problem - I've also got all relevant documents, etc for foreign travel. No special accommodations are required.

2. Anywhere in Vegas to the border crossing in Tecate. Once I'm across the border, transportation isn't an issue.

3. Ideally there's a comfortable intersection between price and time. But between the two I'd be open to spending more money if it shaves off more time.

4. Thus far my best route seems to be:
a. Flight between Vegas and San Diego
b. Tram between San Diego and El Cajone
c. Bus between El Cajone and Tecate
That still takes about 7 hours, which seems fine, but is reliant on making connections. So I'd assume would be 10+ hours some days, which is less amusing.

5. I'm open to pretty much any type of travel that doesn't involve me driving - ride share, airplane, tram, bus, train, burro, etc.

6. Schedule can be somewhat flexible. if I can get the Internet situation sorted out in Tecate, I could travel on weekends and work from there for a week. But in theory it would be nice to have a viable option that involves travel Friday afternoon, returning to Vegas Sunday evening. The big restriction is I probably can't travel during the middle of a weekday most days.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Do any of the options at Rome2Rio look good?

Since both connections rely on the timeliness of the tram, I think you're fine there. In my admittedly limited experience, they do show up every fifteen minutes (or whatever the advertised interval is).

I'm assuming you want to cross at Tecate just because the northbound crossing is faster there than in Tijuana? In that case, I'd consider, at least for the southbound leg, crossing at San Isidro (option #2 or #3 in Ian Scuffling's link).

Woops, I should have actually clicked through on that Rome2Rio link above. Instead, I used Rome2Rio to search for San Diego to Tecate, where tram > El Cajon + bus > Tecate is the first option and the second option is what I was talking about. So, kinda looks like you've already sussed the best route.

Response by poster: Thanks for the input. I'm crossing at Tecate because that's my destination, but I could cross at Tijuana and bus over - that just seems like a slower way to do it.

The Rome2Rio suggestions are where I got most of my info. It looks like flight to San Diego, the Lyft to Tecate, CA is the fastest. And mix of that and buses if I want to save money.
