QuickLook video preview on Mac is super fast all of a sudden

I'm on a Mac running High Sierra. Recently the previews of videos on the desktop (select video, hit spacebar) started playing at extra-fast speed. I can't find anything online to explain this, or any instances of other people having this problem. Also, there seem to be no settings or other speed controls for Quicklook. What's going on??

Have you installed any graphic- or video-related applications (even something that might seem completely benign) that could conceivably include a QuickLook plugin?

And of course the age-old troubleshooting questions: have you tried restarting or checking if the same issue persists in another user account?

OS X pre-caches files you leave on your desktop for quicker viewing. I would start by manually clearing all system caches.
