Problem with mouse click

My problem is killing me, When ever I click once it automatically double clicks. I have uninstalled my mouse programs and installed the latest firmware/drivers. I have looked in the mouse properties and also checked for virus's and spyware.
The mouse Im using is the Razer Copperhead. It was working fine before.
Sorry if this is too obvious, but did you try restarting your PC and/or try someone else's mouse?

I've had mice react erratically to glossy mousepads? It was such an odd thing that I didn't even think to check for it at first. Can we rule that out as a factor here?

first thing i'd do is grab another mouse, or borrow someones, to see if that does it too. if it does you know it's a software issue, if it doesn't, it's prob worth just throwing the old one away.

This might be a stupid idea, but isn't there an option to switch left/right button functionality (for left-handers). Because then you could find out quite easily if it's the button/mouse that's causing the problem, or the software.

Response by poster: I tried another mouse, no problems there. I hope it isnt my mouse as it cost me $100.

Response by poster: I tried swapping the mouse buttons in the Control Panel and there is no problems with the right button. It seems to be only triggered by the left button. I hope it isnt hardware related as I have only had it for a few months.

Best answer: Did you try firmly but lovingly giving the troublesome button a good hard poke/slap? Seems to clear up many of my technology related problems (disclaimer: may be a stupid idea).
Sounds like its time to check your warrenty, either way.

Glad to help! I've lost count of the number of times the firm-but-fair method had solved such pesky problems for me.

*sigh* I try and try to train my users out of slapping their equipment, and here you go and make it work.

Yep, if slapping the button fixed it, the microswitch is wearing out inside.
Same thing on my mouse too. But I'm too lazy to replace the microswitch right now... click click click click

So for when the microswitch finishes crapping out: If the mouse isn't still under warranty, you may be able to fix it by replacing the microswitch if you're handy with a soldering iron. If not, at least new ones are not quite as expensive as $100 any more.
