How can I get a South African Braai Grid delivered to CA affordably?

I'm looking to get a good Braai grid. I can find them on South African websites but noone seems to deliver outside of Africa.

These are grill baskets that you put meat or sausage into and put over the coals to cook. All American style grill baskets I've found have the wires in lines. What I'm looking for is a grid. It's important for something I want to cook. They should also have adjustable thickness and preferably be made of stainless steel.

Here are a couple examples of good models:
LK's 107/6
Hot-rods (I like the Transam model)
Something similar that used to sell on Amazon

I've spent a lot of time googling around for these. Any idea how I can get my hands on one?

Check in person at your local barbecue supply store. (or your local barbecue store's website)

Maybe I'm missing something but those are commonly sold in the US. I have several. Like - isn't this what you're looking for? Or no?

You might want to add the words "fish" and "bbq" to your searches.

Getting anything larger than a letter sent overseas from South Africa is expensive, even for the methods that are slow and unreliable. I recall sending a box weighing a little over one pound that courier companies wanted to charge me ~$150 to send, and I ended up sending though the South African Postal Office that still cost around $50.

With something like a braai grid, it is big and heavy, so I shudder to think what they'd want to charge to send it (otherwise I'd offer to send one to you). I think your only option will be to find something that is already for sale in the US market. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

These look pretty similar to your links:

Grilling basket

Much deeper basket

Open basket format

No handle

And yeah, if you want to handle some you might swing by a big box hardware store right now while the summer grill stock is all out on the floor, since I've seen versions of these there (but not the boxier ones, so you might go with ordering those).

As a couple of people have noted these are usually called grill baskets or fish grillers (though that also describes the weird almond-shaped thing that holds like one fish) in the US. Do you not see what you're looking for when searching for those terms?

just re-read the question and it appears that your biggest issue is that American grill baskets dont have inter-woven sides but just long parallel wires? could you get a basic/available on that lacks the grid pattern you desire and buy some stainless steel wires to run cross-wise to keep your grilled stuff contained?

How about this? Similar products by searching for "grilling basket"

Response by poster: Thanks for the answers so far. A bit of explanation is in order:

The baskets linked so far are all similar to ones I've found on my own. What they mostly lack is an adjustable thickness. This is important because for what I want to do I need to compress the meat. Unless the meat happens to match the thickness of the basket, I need an adjustable basket. This is usually accomplished by a couple of teeth on the far side of the lid that fit into one of various slots in the bottom.

Most of the baskets here are adjustable in one way or another. Two of mine have adjustable mesh that expands to fit what you put in it and the other can be tightened in the handle but not as you describe. I think you need to go look at some in person or call a site like the BBQ guys and tell them what you need. They are not hard to find and I think that seeing them in person might be needed.
