Ireland transit: Dublin to Lismore without a car

What’s a good way to get from Dublin airport to the middle of County Waterford without a car? Ideally keeping costs low.
I’ve never been to Ireland and know virtually nothing about transit there. Google Maps suggests taking several buses for a total trip time of about 5 hours. Is there an easier way?
I’m wondering if it makes sense to take a train to Cork and then get a cab or catch a bus. Or take a train to Waterford and get a cab or catch a bus from there. How much would that kind of a cab ride cost?
Basically: I don’t trust google maps to be giving all the options available. What is a sensible way to get to rural Ireland without a car?

I'd take the airport bus to Waterford and then the local bus to Lismore. In general that's the easiest way to get from Dublin airport to anywhere. You can take the train to most major hubs too but you have to go in town to catch it and it's a hassle. The airport buses leave right from the airport, are nice, have free wifi and run maybe 20 euro or so. They are also pretty speedy, mostly because the drivers go like bats out of hell but also because they are direct. I doubt you'd save too much time going into town to get on the train but you can easily compare as the online schedules (posted by the actual agencies not Google) are accurate.
The train does have food but Dublin airport has great food so you can always eat there too.

It's been a while for me but bus was the best option when I was traveling around without a car and also it takes a lot longer to get around than I had expected given the distances.
Fshgrl's suggestion is what I would have done.
