Can you recommend a lawyer to help me with a small claims case in DC?

I am being taken to DC small claims court by my former attorney. (Nice, huh?) I need someone to represent and/or advise me in the matter, as well as, ideally, to help me to file a complaint against him with the DC Bar Association.

My former attorney is claiming that he did more work for me than he actually did, outside of the terms of our fee arrangement, and long after the issue with which he was assisting me was resolved.

I have looked at Yelp and Avvo but I would strongly prefer a personal recommendation. My budget inclines me toward someone with a smaller practice vs. a big firm, but I'm willing to pay to fight this shitbag. Someone with small claims court experience would be ideal. It's okay if they're from nearby MD/VA. Please feel free to memail me if you'd like more specifics on the situation... and thanks in advance.

I'm not sure if you'll qualify for any of these services (there are usually income restrictions), but here's Law Help's list of free small claims help in DC.

Hi, I don't have a reference for you but a recommendation that you don't tie your defense against the small claims suit to filing a bar complaint. Many lawyers competent to do the former at a reasonable fee won't do the latter for a number of different reasons. (Also, this should probably go without saying, but no lawyer will defend you against a case alleging you failed to pay another lawyer's fees, without a retainer for 100% of the fees he or she expects to charge you for the defense!)
