Music videos for my daughter
May 29, 2018 5:19 PM   Subscribe

I'm looking for music videos that are swear-free, appropriate for children, have an interesting through-line, feature girls, and have music you could at least sway to. Also, they should be on Youtube.

These are for my six year old and three year old daughters. I like showing them women or girls doing amazing stuff, dancing or singing, and they LOVE music videos.

It's ok if the lyrics have non-explicit adult themes, I'm not super concerned about them puzzling it out, based on existing experience with Abba.

Here are some examples of the kind of thing I'm looking for:
Sigrid - High Five
Sia - Chandelier
Wolf Alice- Bros

Response by poster: Ok sorry, I forgot one thing. I am not looking for something that's explicitly targeted towards kids, like teaching them the alphabet or something. I'm looking for standard music videos.

No lyrics at all, but some really fun, cool visuals and danceable music... does Lindsay Stirling fit the bill?

Hot Cheetos and Takis is an amazing song and rap video by kids. Several girls in the video, also many boys.

Big fan of MC Chris's Nerd Girl. Nerd girls, also dancing. It's sort of about dating but nothing sexual and it's sort of sweet and very catchy.

Might be a little too quirky for you, but it's worth checking out No Rain by Blind Melon.

Random thoughts:
Three women from Georgia (the country), singing together while walking down a road.
Two women from Japan, playing shamisen together, e.g. with fireworks in the background.
Ribbon (rhythmic gymnastics) performances, e.g. Anna Bessonova or Aleksandra Soldatova

You need bboom bboom. Also don't miss out on the fan made cover videos. It's kpop so a mixture of english and korean, but a super fun song and video.

Kylie Minogue’s “Come Into My World” directed by Michel Gondry is super fun as a video for kids to watch.

My kid also loves Justin Bieber’s “Sorry,” which is all women dancing awesomely and joyfully for themselves.

Ex Hex, Waterfall (caution, lots of flashing/flickering)
Pizzicato Five, It's A Beautiful Day
Slower, no lyrics, but they might dig this Kaki King performance

Soy Yo by Bomba Esterio is kind of like the modern Latino version of the Blind Melon video linked above.

The Go! Team - Ladyflash
(Doing It Right would be perfect, but the lyrics include 'lazy-ass'.)

Spice Girls - Wannabe (... don't share with kids if you don't like it, because it's a really really catchy tune.)
Katy Perry - Roar
Nancy Sinatra - These Boots Are Made for Walkin'
Destiny's Child - Independent Women, Pt. 1

And my current favorite summer song: Miss Eaves Produced by KEISHH - Thunder Thighs

(I thought about Gretchen Wilson's "Redneck Woman," but it's got a really loud and often-repeated "Hell Yeah." If that's an acceptable level of swearing, it's a great video for active girls.)

Best answer: Laura Mvula - That's alright

Best answer: Non-narrative, but Jain's music is catchy as all get out and the videos win prizes.

I watch this video constantly to hype myself up.

Lots of Beyonce videos would also suit, but "Move Your Body" is designed for kids to watch and dance to.

Lastly-- inspiring in a different way than "girls kicking ass", but OK GO's videos surely have a place on this list somewhere, especially since the songs are fairly uplifting and swear-free. White Knuckles / This Too Shall Pass

In case you've got any mini metalheads, Voice of Baceprot are hijab wearing teen girl musicians from Indonesia, and they are awesome. Example.

This dance to Istanbul is the only thing I've ever seen from the show Bunheads and it rules. If your youtube recs are anything like mine, it'll lead you to some more good dance videos: Misty Copeland and some ballet schools with kids of all ages.

This is from left-field, but my similarly aged daughters love the Haschack Sisters (Boys are so Ugh + others). I'd much rather have them listen to this than Justin Bieber (who they also love & I can't stand). They are basically little-kid youtube singers/stars. Them plus Taylor Swift covers a lot of tracks..

Thunder Thighs by Miss Eaves
Doing me - Ray BLK (alternate version, there's not an official video, only these lives ones, but the song is great)
QUEEN - Janelle Moane
Lovefool - The Cardigans
Hard Times - Paramore

Best answer: Diet Cig - Harvard
Diet Cig - Tummy Ache

I think both of those have profanity, but the songs are catchy and the videos include tween/teen girls being awesome and empowering.

This doesn't quite meet your requirements because it's not girls, but OK Go's Here It Goes Again is really fun and I bet kids would love it.

I lovelovelove the dancing in Kieza's Hideaway (and I am pretty sure it was shot in one take)
