Puppy-naming thread #16860953

I just brought home the cutest puppy and he needs a new name! He came with the name Maximus, but I have a friend named Max and that would be weird. I like 2-syllable smart people names, or names with nicknames that can be 2-syllables. The short list right now includes Ollie (short for Olivander), or Magnus, but I bet MetaFilter can do better!

Your puppy's name is Herbert Haringey, or Harry, Herby, Herb, Unky Herb, Herbster, Harroo, Higbert, Sir Herbert Bofflington Haringey, etc. Please bring him to me for petting.

Dog lovers should note that if you click on each picture in OP's link, you get mini videos of Gromit, not just stills! Yay!

Not a "smart-person name", but if he's a scamp at all I'd call him Jester.

Response by poster: Thank you for all of your kind suggestions. I’ve actually named him Gatsby, and it seems to have stuck. He perks his (giant) ears up for it, anyway.

Response by poster: I did love Doppler and Radar, though. If I gave dogs non-people names, I would have totally gone with one of those.
