Help me figure out what tv show this is from vague details about a single episode. Sometime in the 1990s, I watched an episode of a tv show that has stuck with me because I found it horrifying and fascinating and I'd really like to find out what it was.

The episode was about a young girl (somewhere between the ages of 12 and 17) who was having terrifying visions in her home. When having these visions, she would see featureless but humanoid "shapes" in different locations in the home. Some were still, but others were moving, and there was one that seemed to be coming down the stairs, that especially frightened her. I remember there was some type of "team" that was brought in to investigate this phenomenon, and they seemed to be the main characters in the show. Eventually, the team figured out that she was actually seeing the future (I have no idea how they determined this), where either her father or mother murders the entire family. Apparently, she blocked out any identifying features because of how upsetting it was, which is why she saw her murdered family and the murdering parent as human blobs instead of identifiable people. I think I remember at least that much correctly, but I might be off on some details.

For a long time, I believed this was an episode of The Outer Limits (the 90's version), but I read every episode description for that show that took place in the 90s, and none of them fit. I know it has to be the 90s, because I remember where I lived when I watched the episode and we moved away from there in 1999. I know it wasn't the X-Files, because I was a huge fan of that show, and there was definitely no Mulder or Scully in this episode. This was a show that I just happened to catch this episode while my step-dad was watching it, not something I watched regularly, so I don't recall any of the actors or even what they looked like. I'm pretty sure it was a TV show and not a movie, because I only recall it being about 45 minutes long.

Does anyone have any idea what this might have been?

Could it be Poltergeist: The Legacy? Can't think of any specific episode that matches your description, but the time period and the format of a team of supernatural investigators would fit.

Was it Scariest Places on Earth? The show featured known scary places and sent families in to check them out. People did see a lot of ghostie happenings on the show, whether real or not I can't say.

Best answer: Could it be Psi Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal?

Maybe Friday The 13th: The Series?

Longshot, but could it be the movie Prince of Darkness?

Some of your key points seem to fit, even though it’s a movie, not a tv show.

Response by poster: Thanks everyone, especially rodlymight, it was, in fact Psi Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal. It was the very first episode of that show, in fact. I found the episode on YouTube.
