ISO worker-owner / coop models designed to work across currencies ..

It seems a lot of solo entrepreneurs these days are hiring a lot of virtual assistants abroad. The thinking goes that $2-3 dollars / hour is a livable wage given the cost of living in the Phillipines, therefore, it's not unethical. I think it's ethically a very gray area. continued below..

I no longer have my finger anywhere near the pulse of the worker-owned / coop / solidarity economy movement, but I got to thinking - are there any models for worker-owned collectives that would work for employees across currencies/ different countries of residence? All of the models for profit sharing that I know much about were developed for coops where all employees are US residents... Any one have any ideas? i did google around and more, but nothing i've come across so far really speaks directly to this question..

There are a few tech coops that have members in a bunch of countries. I can't remember their names offhand, but I bet perusing New Economy Coalition's member list would turn them up. I don't know if they use a different model than other coops, or just have figured out the logistics of having far-flung members.
