Bring chocolate. As much as you can carry. High quality German chocolate is the fucking bomb.

The things that stood out for me in Berlin were:
The flea markets, there's one on Sundays on the outskirts that I went to.
The history of film and tv museum
The Reichstag: check about booking before you go. I had to get tickets.
It's a great city with a wonderful energy.

Every time anyone I know goes to Germany I demand marzipan. Did you know that they have actual legislation around what goes into marzipan there? Now that is getting one's priorities right.
Anyway, this is irrelevant if you or your family do not like marzipan.

Best answer: For cosmetics etc, try Douglas, which is like a German Sephora. However, I really liked looking round the DrogerieMart (DM) drugstores. German drugstores have lots of 'natural' skincare and really, really good bathsalts.
For visiting, I really liked the DDR Museum, but just walking around the city is great.

Best answer: licorice ? (It is great licorice, if your brother likes licorice.)
Bath salts, above, is a good call, as is marzipan (Niederegger is the brand of choice.)
If you are in Europe and can bring back sausages, 'Neuland' is a sign of better than average quality (like 'bio'/organic.)
At the local health food store we get spice mixtures which are pretty great, specifically the pumpkin soup (brand: 'Herbaria')
And of course 'Dr. Hauschka' is a (I am told by my wife) cosmetic/soap brand that is reliably great.
have fun! best of luck!

Nthing bathsalts....in German speaking countries drogerien and apotheken are separate stores. The latter sells prescriptions and otc remedies, the former has body/beauty care, household supplies, baby, health and pet food.

Best answer: +1 for sweets and licorice especially, I get requests to bring licorice back when I visit Germany. The Kadó specialty shop that From Bklyn linked to is fun to visit.
This is more of a long shot because I haven't been there in a few years, but I found delicious fruit preserves at the Prenzlauer Berg weekend farmer's market.
Places to visit: DDR Museum, Jewish Museum, Berlin Wall murals, Museum of Things, Markthalle Neun, shops in Kreuzberg.

Best answer: Niederegger is the most famous, and in my opinion, tastiest marzipan in Germany. (Many other brands use a lot of sugar, so their marzipan is overbearingly sweet.) It originates from Lübeck, but you can buy it in any German supermarket.
For chocolate, you can't go wrong with a visit to Rausch Schokoladenhaus right no Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin. They sell wonderful chocolate, plus they have the Brandenburg gate and other Berlin sights made out of chocolate in the shop. If you fancy some chocolately goodness yourself, go upstairs to their Chocolate Café. The mini tortes are to die for!
For less fancy, but still good chocolate, I recommend Ritter Sport Chocoworld Berlin, where you can even create your own special chocolate to bring home to your loved ones. The standard square Ritter Sport chocolate bars are available in most German supermarkets, too.

Best answer: Seconding the museum of Film and Television! It's small but armed - there's a lot of really cool stuff in the collection. And the gift shop has stuff for a range of tastes; you don't have to be a super-scholarly film-studies kind of person to find something there (I picked up a small notepad with a copy of the movie poster for Metropolis on the cover).

Best answer: At this time of year, you’ll be able to find delightful Easter chocolate gifts in any supermarket or department store. Ritter Sport chocolate is also widely available and inexpensive. For cosmetics/skincare try DM, a drugstore chain with a wide variety of affordable brands.

Best answer: Since you mentioned cosmetics specifically, head to a local Müller or Rossmann drugstore or even a local supermarket and pick up a few Manhattan Lips2Last lip stain/gloss combos. They're only 5 or 6 euros, they aren't available in the U.S., and the are easily the best, longest lasting lip color I've ever tried. I usually end up buying dozens for my friends every time I'm over there!

Best answer: A friend who used to travel to my city from Germany a couple of times a year always brought me Movenpick coffee. This was before it was (apparently) readily available on Amazon.
