Can you be my Spotify?

I need a lot of loud, angry music stat, but I don't know enough about current music to make the "if you like this, you'll like this" function work. Can some music-savvy MeFites help me? Further explanation ...

This is the 58th day of 2018 and, like, 54 of those days have been SHITTY. Things have been steady downhill since last fall ... what little family I have consistently disappoints me, I am lonely and bored with life, I have zero energy, and I am beset by professional frustration and personal sadness one after another in an unrelenting fucking wave. There is no end/improvement in sight for most of it, at least not for 2 or 3 years. Most recently, a person who I thought really cared about me apparently doesn't, and even though it was a crappy, unsatisfying relationship it was probably better than nothing. I guess I'll find out. Honestly, I don't think anyone (except my dogs) would notice or care if I just fucking ghosted on this whole thing. For a while I was sad about all of it but now I can't even muster up the energy for that because why bother?

Tonight was the cherry on the top of shitty because Reasons, and my current plan is to drink bourbon and wallow for the foreseeable future, right up to the point that will prevent me from showing up to work and doing the minimum amount required to earn a living. I need a soundtrack for that.

Remember that song "Bleed it Out" by Linkin Park? I don't know what that's about, but it is angry and loud and that's what I want. More and more and more of that. Can you suggest artists or even specific songs with the same sound and vibe? I could probably come up with some angry heavy metal from the '80s, but there's a whole world of hostility soundtrack out there that I'm just too old and square to know about.

I like most all kinds of music ... I'm okay with "gangsta rap" (do the kids still call it that?) but please no skinhead music. I'm angry and depressed but I'm not a racist asshole.

Thanks in advance.

Some highlights of my current angrysad music, some of it recent and some of it not:

- the entire post-tramautic EP from Mike Shinoda. I don't know if it's on Spotify, though I'm sure it is, but you can stream it from
- "Let You Down" - NF
- "Head Like a Hole" - NIN (not current music, but always good angry music)
- "Riot" - Three Days Grace
- "Whatever" - Godsmack (listen to the 10 minute live version on Youtube and scream along, it's good for you)

My go-to "get drunk and be sadgry" albums are Deafheaven's Sunbather (black metal) and This Will Destroy You's self titled album (post rock).

Honorable mentions:
System of a Down - System of a Down
Lamb of God - New American Gospel
Ministry - Animositisomina

Anger, with a little bit of hope:

Rise Above - Black Flag
Don't Bury Me, I'm Not Dead - Riverboat Gamblers

Anger, straight no chaser:

Poor Born - Dead Moon
Know Your Rights - The Clash

If you really want to dive into a self-loathing rabbit hole, may I suggest the collected works of GG Allin. No specific recommendations here, but he was all about self-hatred and anger and sounds like it might be the kind of catharsis you need.

The Sword
Prophets of Rage is a supergroup of the above mentioned RATM and Public Enemy.
Iron Reagan is about as angry as it gets, and not racist aligned

It you're willing to go for something harder check out Gojira and Meshuggah

i always feel like superchunk does "fuck the world" really well: slack motherf***er and precision auto in particular. if you want to be 'political angry' there's their new album.
(and now i'm sad again about missing them a week ago in richmond)

Local H, the entire As Good As Dead album and most of Pack Up the Cats as well. Start with High-Fiving MF and Back in the Day.

I hesitate to make this recommendation, but Merzbow is worth a shot. At the very least it sounds about as pleasant as your life does.

I hate everything by the Suicide Machines. Wikipedia says it's punk, hardcore punk, melodic hardcore. It's everything anyone could want in an angry song.

If you'd like to skim through a pre-made playlist, I have one of those! Take what you like :)

I’m sorry you’re going through a rough time. Want some melodic NY hardcore? Of course you do.
Glassjaw is made for screaming out your pain at the top of your lungs and sounding good while doing it. The second album, Worship and Tribute is most accessible and I would start there first.

Lots of dudes above, which is fine, but if you want your angry music with a punk rock she-wolf snarl, check out The Distillers, and also some of Brody’s solo work.

Break Stuff by Limp Bizkit is no joke the epitome of this type of song.

If you're open to more growly metal type music here's a couple artists I've been listening to recently:

Rage of Light - Sick
Orphaned Land - We Do Not Resist - Politcal, but very not skinhead
Trivium - The Heart From Your Hate
Arch Enemy - You Will Know My Name
Turisas - Cursed Be Iron
Blood Stain Child - Last Stardust

Tool does it for me. Specifically the songs Intolerance, Ticks and Leaches, Hooker with a Penis. Alas they are currently not on any of the streaming services.

I suggest lots of Rollins-era Black Flag at top volume . I recommend starting with "Who's Got The 10 1/2?" (YouTube | Spotify) or "Damaged" (YouTube | Spotify).

ctrl-f "A Wilhelm Scream"

No? They're incredible. Their song "The Rip" is among my favorites.

Iron Chic is great. Holy sh*t Iron Chic is great. I recommend "Cutesy Monster Man"for all angry/sad catharsis.
