How to start/pause ITunes using F8 key on imac keyboard.

The F8 key previously had the capability to control playback on ITunes. All of a sudden it stopped working.

I have to transcribe audio recordings into text documents.

In the past, as I played the audio, I could pause the playback using the F8 key, type away, then start it playing again using the same key.

This allowed me to type fluidly without having to stop to manipulate a mouse and cursor.

How can I get my f8 key to communicate with ITunes once again?
I need instructions simple enough that a semi-stupid computer user (yours truly!) can follow them.

Best answer: Are you on High Sierra (OS 10.13)? If so, install this. I noticed this myself and had to do this yesterday!
