Government Employee Experiences

I'm looking for books about government agencies and their operations by former employees of those agencies. "We Meant Well" by Peter Van Buren is a good example of what I'm looking for, but I would like as many such books suggestions as possible.

US government only? Chris Mullin's collected diaries are very good accounts of the 1990's Labour government in the UK, from a backbench MP. There are three volumes.

You might like Seeing Like A State. It was on a lot of syllabi back when I was in grad school.
