If Monks Had Macs...in the new millennium?

Many years ago, I fell for If Monks Had Macs, "cdrom library of interactive art, multimedia, computer games, ebooks, an intensive guide to journaling, intensive journal software & a powerful ebook reader" - and accessed through a graphic point-and-click interface of a desk and bookshelf overlooking a monastery courtyard.* I adored both the content and the interface. I'm wondering if folks know of any current projects/software in this vein I could explore?

*Please forgive the CD in the image, but below you can see a screenshot of the interface.
