I like these cover songs. What other cover songs would I like?

I like Disturbed's cover of "The Sound of Silence" and Five Finger Death Punch's cover of "House of the Rising Sun." I think the commonalities are cover of oldish song by metal-y band. What other songs would I like?

LOL I used to love Orgy's version of New Order's Blue Monday But it isn't terribly old.

Oh - but Nirvana did a cover of Leadbelly's Where did you Sleep Last Night and that's a fairly old song.

I think there's a good chance that you would like Paradise Lost's Small Town Boy.

Alien Ant Farm's rendition of "Smooth Criminal" perhaps?

This article has some good suggestions.

Edit to add: So does this one.

Killdozer's version of Neil Diamond's "I Am, I Said," or anything on their For Ladies Only album?

I have a playlist on Spotify where I collect these but also pop song covers by metal or punk bands. On mobile now, but these are the ones I see that may qualify:
Maniac, covered by Firewind.
King of Pain, Mudvayne
Space Oddity, Powerman 5000
Paint it Black, Gob

Disturbed also did a cover of Land of Confusion that might be along the lines of what you're looking for.

Five Finger Death Punch also did a cover of Bad Company1 that goes satisfyingly hard.

1as my spouse would call it, "Bad Company by Bad Company from the album Bad Company," which continues to delight me

I love Turisas' cover of Rasputin.

Laibach might be too much on the side of industrial rather than metal, but they did whole albums which were covers of Beatles and Rolling Stones songs - unfortunately they're all blocked for me on youtube, but are on Spotify.

I too came to recommend Ghost's cover of Here Comes the Sun, and since it wasn't linked in the previous comment, here you go: Ghost: Here Comes the Sun

Love the question and am looking forward to checking out the answers.

Though they don't exactly do covers, Beatallica scratches the same itch for me.

My favorite of all is the metallish Junkyard Drive version of Geordie, a classic Child ballad covered my numerous singers/bands.

Joan Jett's version of Crimson and Clover.

Would you like a reversal? Check out the version of Iron Man done by the Cardigans.

On my phone so I can't link, but Type O Negative's cover of "Summer Breeze" seems like it would fit the bill.

Leatherface covers You are my sunshine and I can't help falling in love with you (Elvis!), both readily youtube-able. Nomeansno covers Niel Young's hey hey, my my and just kills it. No links right now, I'm not allowed to blast music on mondays and wont be able to resist. Oh NMN's alter ego, the hansen bros, cover Get it right back, also on the youtubes.

I've got a whole playlist of these. I don't know how heavy you like your metal or if you like metal that covers other metal so I'll just post a bunch. I'll skip all the suggestions contained in the articles above.

Chaos Divine - Africa
KMFDM - These Boots Are Made For Walkin'
Within Temptation - Radioactive
Korn - Another Brick In The Wall parts 1-3
Otep - Royals
Children of Bodom - I'm Shipping Up to Boston
Dope - You Spin Me Round (Like a Record) and Rebel Yell
Devildriver - Sail and Wasted Years
Nightwish - Over the Hills and Far Away, Phantom of the Opera, and High Hopes
Rage Against the Machine's album Renegades is all covers iirc
Lacuna Coil - Losing My Religion, Enjoy the Silence
Therion does a bunch of classical stuff, such as part of the New World Symphony and O Fortuna
Arch Enemy - Symphony of Destruction and Incarnated Solvent Abuse which are probably the heaviest ones here.
My favorite metal cover ever is Death's cover of Painkiller, already recommended above.

Punk Goes Pop also might be your speed. Anyway, enjoy :)

I've always liked Evergreen Terrace's take on Sunday Bloody Sunday. Not really "metal" and I guess it depends on how far back you want to go for "old-ish," though :)

I LOVE the Kittie cover of Pink Floyd's Run Like Hell.

A Perfect Circle did an entire album (save for two songs) of anti-war cover songs that might have some likely jams as well.

There are also a surprising number of metal bands that cover Come Undone by Duran Duran. Seriously, there's so many I can't even link to all of them, it'd be ridiculous. But a search for "come undone metal cover" will turn up a ton of hits.
