Amazon is cutting all the best scenes!

Recently, after hearing about the new 3D version, I wanted to watch Terminator 2 again and saw it available on Amazon Prime (Germany), so I went for it, but imagine my Horror when it got to Sara Connor's iconic playground nightmare, the one where she crumbles to dust in a nuclear firestorm while banging at the fence, the scene was deleted!

Is there a possibility to see if videos from Amazon have been cut in such a way? The only information given for Terminator 2 was that it is rated for 16 year and older. Just now I want to rent Blade II, it's not included in Prime, but if they even cut something like this, what will they do with Blade II?

Why are they doing this? Terminator 2 with the scene is rated 16, the version they are showing is rated 16, why are they streaming a version with this kind of editing, what standard are they trying to meet?

Best answer: I believe that scene in Terminator 2 was part of the special edition release and not the normal theatrical release.

Best answer: Yup, there are three versions of T2, and that sequence was cut from the theatrical release as per this site (and apparently Cameron prefers the theatrical version best of the three).

Response by poster: What! I didn't know that, who would cut such a fine scene? Oh well, there I have my answer. Thanks!

I'm not certain you have the right answer. I believe the iconic playground / nuclear holocaust scene is in every version of the film. I distinctly recall seeing it in the theater at release, and while memory is notoriously unreliable on this kind of thing it's such an essential part of the movie I can't imagine it being cut from a theatrical release. I'd wait for a more authoritative answer.

There is an extra scene in the extended versions at a playground that shows an optimistic future. More info on different versions on IMDB.

As for why it would be cut, I could imagine it being removed for German cultural sensibilities.

Seconding that the scene in question was in the US theatrical release (at least in the theater in small town USA where I saw it). I've only seen the movie once, and that was when it came out in theaters. It was the eeriest part of the movie. My best friend and I went to see it, and we're both science nerds, and we left the theater arguing about the shock wave propagating out in a more or less perfect circle and whether or not that was realistic.
