Usefulness of SME Lean Certification?

I am currently with a service company that is undergoing a lean transformation. An opportunity to may come soon for me to study for and receive a SME Lean Certification if I desire it, but I'm curious as to the utility of such a certification from those who have one. If you have the cert, did you find it helped you in your career and the types of work you sought?

I want to take the opportunity if it will help open doors for me but I don't know how seriously the certification is taken and by whom. While I do consulting work now to advise on process efficiencies, long term is probably rather return to actually the part where I'm doing the actual work and business of being in a company rather than the consultant. Similarly, I'd like to manage people some day.

How useful was your SME Lean Certification? Are there uses for it outside of manufacturing and more in corporate sector?

If I were you, I'd get the certification. I've been in two different manufacturing industries and it is almost expected in both. I am currently in IT for a corporation that does manufacturing and it is well regarded, common terminology, and I see job openings mentioning LEAN quite frequently worldwide.
