Why does my iPhone change the playback device on its own?

The following happens with all my iPhone headphones, even the wired ones. I can make sure my headphones are either paired or plugged in and go out for a run or walk or an errand or whatever. Everything is fine and working as it should. When I return, either an hour later or the end of the workday, as I approach my home, the iPhone switches play to the Logitech Bluetooth Adapter inside my home. This happens every time. Why?

I have an iPhone 6. The OS is up to date. I have a number of sets of headphones, both wired and wireless that are paired with my phone. I also have a Logitech Bluetooth Adapter attached to my home stereo. In general, the BT adapter is on, but not in use when I arrive home. My phone is also paired with the adapter.

I can get my podcast or music back or pair/unpair the iPhone as needed, that isn’t an issue. My question is it happening in the first place, particularly with the wired headphones?

In my experience, some Bluetooth devices are just really "grabby" – they like to auto-connect. When a BT device connects, iOS will switch your default audio device over to it. Which is usually something you want, until it's not.

To give one example, the Bluetooth built into one of my cars is quite enthusiastic about auto-connecting. If I'm in another car and driving close to the the "grabby" one, I might as well give up listening to music via Bluetooth on my phone in the first car, since it'll keep connecting over to the other one.

Response by poster: Does the Bluetooth supersede the wired connection, though?

It doesn't necessarily supersede; the phone just notices "hey new audio output thing!" and assumes you wanted to use it. (I have, for example, been playing the phone through the Bluetooth in the car or over the speaker or whatever and plugged headphones in as I was about to leave, and the phone switched to headphone output instead. Same thing happens if I have it running through Bluetooth speaker set #1 and turn on the little portable one.)
