Short Story about Buildings at War

Some years ago a friend read a short story, possibly in Omni magazine, and she doesn't remember the author at all. All she can remember is that there are large office buildings with people doing office stuff in them, until another building appears on the horizon and is getting closer. All the office people begin to prepare for war, making weapons out of office supplies. That's it.

We were booksellers (used) and received a stack of the magazine and she randomly read this one story. If anyone can identify the story, we'd be grateful. If no one can, we won't be surprised.

It’s not a story, but this sounds very similar to the Crimson Permanent Assurance bit from Monty Python’s Meaning Of Life.

Response by poster: Well, she's very clear that she read it in a magazine, but I'll put this possibility to her. Thanks.

I have a vague memory of the Monty Python skit appearing in written form in a coffee-table book of theirs circa late 80s, early 90s, but might be mistaken. (On mobile, so searching is hard, sorry)

Response by poster: Hmmm. Two Monthy Python and one horror/sf, quite the dichotomy. Appreciate the efforts, y'all.
