One Mug To Rule Them All

I had this Nissan Thermos Travel Mug, and my life was happy and complete. For a dozen years or so in three dozen+ countries, it was absolutely 100% spill-proof, could not accidentally come open in a bag, survived countless abuses. AND THEN I LEFT IT ON A BUS.

Of course it's discontinued, because the world is a terrible place. I don't want a similar mug. I want THIS mug, and no other. I can find it online, but always out of stock, and maybe it's the current political situation but I'm miserable without it and fixated on securing a replacement. Is there any hope? Thanks!

I'd use a Craigslist-crawling app to set a Craigslist alert and set a recurring eBay search. Make sure they are broad enough to capture mis-listed items. Also, I'd write someone higher up at Thermos a clever, fun letter and see whether they might find some back stock languishing in some warehouse somewhere. You never know!

Good luck!

I assume you've called the bus company, and visited their lost & found?

Also try calling 311 for lost-n-found, if you left it on a city bus in the USA and your city has a 311 service.

(That is a nice mug, you have my condolences)

That's the same mug.

(I have two of these at home, both sans lid and thus semi-retired. Best mug I've ever owned. I'll give 2soxy4mypuppet a chance to order this one.)

Response by poster: It is the same mug. Sadly, when you hit "add to cart," it's out of stock. :-(

Here's one!

Source: reverse google image search on Amazon's picture and a million open tabs.

A third-party seller also has it on Amazon India, if you have friends in India.

I rescind my first link (coffeesupershop.com). The site says they use the amazon affiliate program, and when I tried to check out, they had options of paying via PayPal or sending a check to "Store Name, Store Street, Store Town, Store State / County, Store Postcode." -_-

Response by poster: Sorry, why rescind the link? It looks available!

I rescinded the link because when I went to the checkout page, it offered two payment options: Paypal, or "mail a check" to an address that hadn't been filled out. I suspect that it's a storefront that was set up but never fully configured.

There's also text at the bottom of the site that says,
Coffee Super Shop is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon.com
So this means they derive their catalog from amazon.com, and we've already seen that this mug isn't in stock on Amazon.

You can certainly try to place an order and see what happens, but be careful if you use your PayPal account.

Response by poster: I never followed up on this and am quite remiss. Holgate had an extra, and was good enough to sell it to me. The mug and I have been happily together now for almost a year. Metafilter, you are the best.
