How can i replace my Nokia 1100 LCD screen?

What do i need to buy and do if the ink flow, not the glass, is broken?

I dropped my beloved Nokia 1100 and it's like the LCD screen is two thin plates of glass with ink in and now the ink won't flow to the bottom half:( I love love love this phone and you can't get spare parts any more. Secondhand quality is dodgy at best. Can i learn to fix it myself? What precisely do i need to buy as a replacement part - the glass isn't cracked and 'screen' seems to mean just the glass. Can I cannibalise another Nokia 1100 or am i going to need to solder and rewire, not just screw and glue? It's basically an early model dumbphone with no internet anything and an LCD screen of the traditional, black on a green background sort. Thanks ever so much.

iFixit shows the screen and membrane as a single easily-swappable unit so that may be your best bet if you can find a cheap one to cannibalise.

There are definitely parts available. You could probably get a replacement cheaper than you could pay someone to fix it, though, despite it being a 10-15 minute job for a pro in a well stocked shop. Back in the olden days many carrier stores would repair feature phones for the cost of parts, but that isn't something the large ones do anymore.

That said, with the proper tools, you can disassemble an 1100 and replace its screen way easier than any smartphone. If you're at all organized and mechanically inclined you can do it.

Response by poster: well, i can't get a charger-adaptor part. I'm in the UK, so there's just ebay and amazon, and some 2ndhand shops' websites, whose trustworthiness is impossible to ascertain from the distance i live. I'm old, so we did simple wiring and soldering in school science in those days. But my experience of online electronics parts retail is, they lie to you that it will fit and in fact it's not the exact model they said and one of the pins doesn't line up. If i buy this can i know it will fit or can i buy any screen about the same size, considering i surely don't need the form factor/whatever phones call their exoskelton? Do i just need the LCD screen or do i need matching wires or something? I'm sad, because the screen on this Finnish phone was so much sharper and clearer and the speakers so much clearer and louder than the Hungarian and German ones i've owned before. I should have kept buying them back when it was easier to keep in stock:( Thanks everyone so far, it is a great help, for instance now i know what screwdriver i need:)

They sold 250 million 1100s. At the time it was the world's best selling smartphone. I see them all over eBay and such for $10-30 in working condition. Why wouldn't you just replace it?

Nokia also makes the retro 3310 for about $35. It has a color screen and a little internet connectivity but otherwise it's a cheap Nokia candy bar phone.

They're just devices. There's no reason to be sentimental about one in particular.
