I've recently got into cooking and baking in a big way. Does a book exist which sort of says: "OK, beginning of Autumn, these sorts of baked goods were traditionally made with this variety of in-season fruit at this time of year" and/or "ok begining of Winter, people began eating preserved red cabbage with their meats and for breakfast would begin eating porridge at this time"?

I realise this is a bit of a disjointed question and doesn't really hang together that well.

e.g. week beginning October 5th: coq au vin time!!

I'm sort of after an exhaustive version of Nigel Slater's kitchen diaries but including

Easter: hot cross buns!

Autumn: Pumpkin pie!!

Late summer/early autumn : apple crumble time!

Summer: caprese salad!

Are you specifically looking for *traditional* cooking and historical foods, or cookbooks for the modern cook that are categorized by season? If the latter, this cookbook looks like it could get you pretty far, and has excellent reviews.

Maybe Twelve Months of Monastery Soups and Twelve Months of Monastery Salads, delightfully compiled by a Benedictine monk.

Several of Elisabeth Luard's cookbooks, for Europe, or Edna Lewis, for the States.

Maybe the easiest way to do this is to keep tabs on what is in season near you. Is there a CSA in your area that has a blog? Or a person with a CSA subscription near you who has an Instagram account?

Have you considered cookery magazines, rather than a book? Issues generally include recipes for the curent season.

Since you're in the UK, you could try picking up the Waitrose food magazine (which is free when you buy something, if you get a myWaitrose loyalty card).
